Getting Started

If you are a bit nervous about taking a reformer class for the first time, we recommend starting with the Reformer First Timer Class. This session introduces you to the machine, movements, and exercises, providing essential information for safe practice. It’s an interactive class where questions are always welcome. You’ll leave feeling more confident on the reformer and ready for future classes, and it’s a great opportunity to make new connections!
If you’re ready to jump right in, feel free to browse the class descriptions on our schedule and select the one that resonates with you. We recommend arriving a bit early, especially for your first class, so you can inform the instructor and receive assistance as they show you around. Each instructor is attentive to every participant and takes the time to explain exercises and transitions in detail.

Grip socks are mandatory for all classes to ensure students' safety on the reformer machine. Wear comfortable clothes that you can move freely in. You’re welcome to bring a water bottle and a towel. We also have a filtered water fountain for convenient refills. Grip socks are also available to purchase at the studio.
-
Yes, wearing grip socks is mandatory for all classes to ensure your safety and sanitation purposes. If you forget yours, you can purchase a pair at the reception desk.
-
Wear whatever you feel comfortable moving in, whether that’s leggings, shorts, sweatpants, or a loose-fitting top. Just avoid anything overly loose or flowy that could get caught in the Reformer springs or interfere with your movement.
Please avoid jeans or clothing with zippers, buckles, buttons, or other sharp or hard details that could damage the Reformer upholstery. We also recommend removing bulky jewellery before class.
If you have long hair, please tie it back securely to keep it out of the way and prevent it from getting caught in the Reformer springs or moving parts.
And don’t forget your grip socks! They’re required for all Reformer classes and are available for purchase at the studio.
-
We recommend arriving 10 minutes before your class starts. Our studio doors open approximately 15 minutes before class, so please allow enough time to check in, get changed if needed, and get settled.
To save time, please make sure your waiver is signed before arriving. You’ll need to be on your Reformer and ready to begin at the scheduled class start time.
Late arrivals are not permitted, as entering after class has started can disrupt the instructor and other clients. If you’re unable to arrive on time, please cancel your booking in advance to avoid any applicable late-cancel or no-show penalty and fees.
-
If it’s your very first time on the Reformer, we recommend starting with our Reformer First Timer class. It’s specifically designed to introduce you to the equipment, explain how the Reformer works, and walk you through foundational exercises so you can learn how to move safely and confidently.
If you can’t attend a First Timer class, you’re welcome to try one of our beginner-friendly classes, especially those with a slower pace or lower intensity to help you ease into your practice. Just let your instructor know before class that it’s your first time so they can help you get set up and provide any additional guidance you need.
For your first class, take your time and listen to your body. It’s completely fine to take a break or modify an exercise when needed. Your instructor is there to guide you, help with your form, and offer adjustments throughout class. Safety and proper form always come first.
-
Not at all! If it’s your first time using the Reformer, just let your instructor know when you arrive. They’ll walk you through how the equipment works, help you get set up, and adjust your footbar and springs as needed before class begins. No prior Reformer experience is required.
-
If you have an injury, physical limitation, or anything else that may affect your movement, please let your instructor know before class. They can help you modify exercises and provide alternatives where appropriate.
Every body and situation is different, so if you’re unsure whether Reformer Pilates is suitable for you, we recommend checking with your healthcare professional before participating. Your safety comes first, and we encourage you to listen to your body throughout class and take breaks whenever needed.
-
Please book online prior to class. You may book classes and buy packages/memberships on our app by searching "Ki Movement" in the App Store OR you can book on our website.
-
Please check in at reception when you arrive, before heading into the studio. This helps us make sure you’re properly checked in for your class.
If you’re taking two classes back-to-back, please remind our staff to check you in for your second class as well.
If you arrive and your instructor is already in the studio, please make sure that you are properly checked in for your class before taking your spot on the Reformer.
-
We’re located on McCaul Street, just a few steps from Queen Street West. The building entrance is always locked, so an access code will be sent to you in your booking confirmation email.
Once inside the building, our studio doors open approximately 15 minutes before your class starts. We recommend arriving about 10 minutes early so you have time to enter, check in at reception, and get settled before class.

Absolutely. We encourage you to modify exercises whenever needed. Your instructor can offer different options based on your experience level, how your body is feeling that day, or any injuries or physical limitations you may have.
If an exercise doesn’t feel right, let your instructor know or take a break. There’s no need to push through discomfort. Our goal is to help you move safely, build strength, and feel confident on the Reformer.
-
If you have an injury, please let your instructor know before class starts so they can help you modify exercises and offer appropriate alternatives. Your instructor can also help you adjust your setup or range of motion when needed.
Please listen to your body throughout class and let your instructor know if something doesn’t feel right. We want you to feel challenged, but never at the expense of your safety. If you’re recovering from an injury or are unsure whether Reformer Pilates is appropriate for you, we recommend checking with your healthcare professional before participating.
-
Absolutely! You’re welcome to book multiple classes, including back-to-back classes, as long as there’s availability and your credits or membership allow it.
If you’re taking two classes back-to-back, let our reception team or instructor know when you arrive so we can make sure you’re properly checked in for both classes.
If you’re newer to Reformer Pilates or trying two different class styles in one day, listen to your body and give yourself a break between classes if needed. There’s no need to push through fatigue.
-
Yes! Our Reformer Pilates classes are suitable for beginners, and you don’t need previous Pilates or Reformer experience to get started.
If you’re completely new to the Reformer, we recommend starting with our First Timer class. It’s designed to introduce you to the equipment, foundational movements, and basic Reformer setup in a supportive environment.
You can also join our regular group classes. For your first few sessions, consider classes with a slower pace or lower intensity, such as Flow & Stretch, Slow & Focus, or Move & Groove. Just let your instructor know that you’re new when you arrive so they can help you get set up and provide extra guidance throughout class.
If you prefer more personalized instruction, you can also book a Private 1:1 Reformer Pilates session with an instructor. This is a great option if you’d like more individual guidance, want to build confidence on the Reformer before joining group classes, or have specific goals you’d like to work on.
Every class can be modified to suit your experience and how your body feels that day. Start at your own pace, take breaks when needed, and focus on learning the movements rather than keeping up with everyone else.
-
Yes! Our Reformer Pilates classes are designed for a range of fitness levels and experience. You don’t need to be particularly flexible, strong, or experienced to join us.
With different class styles, paces, and intensities on the schedule, you can choose a class that matches how you’re feeling and what you’d like to work on. Some classes offer a slower pace and more focused approach, while others are faster-paced and more challenging.
Exercises can also be modified throughout class to suit your experience, ability, or how your body feels that day. Your instructor can offer different options and help you adjust your setup, range of motion, or resistance when needed.
Whether you’re just getting started, returning to movement, or looking to challenge yourself, you can find a class that works for you. We encourage you to move at your own pace and focus on quality movement and proper form rather than keeping up with anyone else.
-
Our classes are designed for different experience levels, paces, and intensities, so you can choose based on where you are in your Reformer Pilates journey and how you’re feeling that day.
New to Reformer Pilates? Start with First Timer, or try a beginner-friendly class such as Flow & Stretch, Slow & Focus, or Move & Groove. These classes offer a slower pace or lower intensity, giving you more time to get comfortable with the Reformer and learn the movements.
Have some Reformer experience? You can explore classes such as Core & Glutes or Upper Body for a more focused workout, or try different class styles depending on what you’d like to work on.
Looking for more of a challenge? Power & Burn, Cardio & Jump, and Intense & Sculpt offer a faster pace and higher intensity for those who want to push themselves.
You can always modify exercises throughout class, so don’t worry if a class feels outside your usual routine. Check the class description for the pace and intensity, and let your instructor know if you’re new or have any questions. Trying different classes and instructors is also a great way to discover what works best for you.
-
Our instructors primarily guide classes through clear verbal cues, helping you understand the setup, movement, and proper form throughout class. When helpful, they’ll demonstrate an exercise or part of a movement so you can better understand what to do.
Our instructors each have their own teaching style, but all are experienced in using verbal cues to guide you through class. They also move around the room to check in, offer corrections, and provide hands-on adjustments when appropriate.
If you’re new to Reformer Pilates, don’t worry if you don’t get every movement right away. Let your instructor know that it’s your first time, and they’ll provide additional guidance and modifications as needed.
-
Absolutely! You can take the same Reformer Pilates class more than once a week, as long as there’s availability and your credits or membership allow it.
Repeating a class can actually be a great way to become more familiar with the exercises, build consistency, and notice your progress over time. You may also find that the same class feels different depending on the instructor, your energy, and how your body is feeling that day.
As always, listen to your body and give yourself time to recover between classes, especially if you’re taking higher-intensity sessions.
-
Yes! While each class has a clear focus and intention, the exercises, sequencing, and programming can change from week to week.
At Ki Movement, we encourage our instructors to bring their own creativity into their class planning. You may take the same class each week, but the movements and combinations won’t necessarily be the same. This keeps your practice feeling fresh, fun, and engaging while still giving you the consistency of a class format you know and enjoy.
It’s something our community loves about Ki Movement. We often hear from clients that they appreciate the variety and never quite know what their instructor has planned for them next!
Each instructor also brings their own personality, teaching style, and creative approach to class, so you may find that the same class feels a little different depending on who you take it with.
-
Absolutely. If an exercise doesn’t feel right for your body, you can modify it, choose an alternative, or take a break. You never need to push through pain or discomfort just because an exercise is part of the class.
Let your instructor know if something doesn’t feel right and they can suggest a different option or help you adjust your setup, range of motion, or resistance. You’re also welcome to choose a modification that you know works well for your body.
Our goal is to challenge you while keeping movement safe, intentional, and appropriate for your body that day. Listening to your body is always encouraged at Ki Movement.
